Cleaning the house can be made easy with the use of a sponge. Sponges also come in handy for other hacks and tricks.

You just need to know how to slice it or pair it. There are different ways to clean your home or various ways to clean with a sponge.

There are also fun hacks you can use to get rid of boredom. For whatever use you prefer, keep a few sponges on hand.

These are completely inexpensive and will come in handy in so many sponge cleaning and household hacks.

Microwave Sanitizer

After prolonged use, a sponge can hold on to dirt and germs. Clean it up quickly in the microwave. Fill a microwave safe bowl with 1 part vinegar and 1 part water.

Place the sponge inside until it’s fully immersed. Then put it in the microwave and run on medium heat for 2-3 minutes.

The heat will act with the vinegar to remove bacteria and make your sponge squeaky clean. This hack will allow you to keep your sponges for longer periods of time.

Soap Saver

When you use an ordinary soap dish, the greater majority of your bar soap just melts away. Once it gets wet, it will melt and get washed down the drain.

To save on soap, use a sponge as a soap dish instead. Just trace a circle in the center of your sponge. Ensure that it is the size of the bar of soap or slightly larger.

Then score it and cut out the center piece. The space that is left is where you’ll rest your bar of soap.

Once the soap is all used up, you can moisten the sponge and use the residue that melted away from the wet soap.

Sponge Wall Decor

For home renovation DIY’s keep a large sponge. If you want to make your own brick wall effect, you can do so with a sponge.

Dip the large side of the large sponge into brown paint. Press it firmly against the wall to create one block.

Continue this in the wall pattern of your liking. This can be an easy way to redo the garage wall or even a section of the living room.

Once you’re done, hang a painting or plant to off set your design.

Blind Cleaner

Cleaning blinds can be a tedious task, especially when you’re attempting to remove dust from individual blades. A couple sponges can make this chore much easier.

Just cut a hole in the short side of the sponges and slip them onto a pair of tongs. Slide this along the blinds to clean them.

You can also soak the sponges in a cleaning solution of your choice to give a deep clean. Add essential oils to freshen the room and customize the scent.

Keep this handy to clean the blinds all over the house.

Window Squeegee

If you don’t have a squeegee and prefer not to buy one, you can use a sponge.

Just clean the window the way you normally would and use a soft sponge to absorb all the water.

Wipe away the moisture in one direction the way you would use an ordinary squeegee.

The sponge can also be used to scrub away the grime with soap before you do your final wipe.

If you’re getting streaks, then you need a softer and smoother sponge.

One Step Scrubbing

Use a sponge to create a one step cleaning solution.

Just cut a hole in the side of the sponge, one large enough to house a small bar of soap. Then insert the bar of soap. Or you can use grated soap as the insert.

To use this, all you have to do is moisten the sponge to create a lather and get to wiping. This eliminates the need to lather and rinse your sponge.

All that is used is one side for scrubbing and the other for wiping away the suds.

Magnetic Cleaner

It can be difficult to get into deep cups or glassware. To hack this just take a sponge and slice it in half. Then cut a slit in the side of each piece.

Insert 2 flat opposing magnets and use this to get into the depths of your glassware. Place one on the inside for the cup and keep one in your hand on the outside.

Then slide the one on the outside and the one on the inside will follow. Just remember to seal the sides of the sponge with hot glue.

Sponge Floor Protector

If you have hardwood floors, a sponge can help you to protect it from sliding furniture. Just cut the sponge to the size and shape of the furniture legs.

Then glue each piece to the areas they fit. Now you can slide your furniture without worrying about scratching your hardwood floor.

This will also help to make the furniture more quiet on the floor. If you have a table or chair with uneven legs, you can add another piece of sponge to balance it out.

Sponge Toilet Cleaner

A sponge can be used to make a toilet brush. If you end up without an actual toilet brush, you can simply hack it with a sponge.

Just slit the shorter side and insert an old toothbrush or short stick. Use this to scrub the inside of your toilet.

This hack is perfect if it’s done with a sponge that has a scouring pad attached. One side can be for the heavy cleaning and the other will do light wiping.

Once you’re done you can choose to sanitize your sponge or discard it.

Homemade Magic Eraser

Make your very own magic eraser with a sponge and baking soda. Cut a space in the side or top of the sponge.

Then create a paste with baking soda and water to fill the sponge. Insert your paste into the sponge and every time you need to clean a tough stain, just give it a scrub with your new magic eraser.

The baking soda will act to powerfully remove all your surface stains. It will also quickly clean your counter tops and cabinets.

Air Freshener

Have you ever needed a freshener that was subtle enough for a small space like a closet? Now you can make one of your own.

Just take a few drops of a classic essential oil, like ylang ylang and add it to a sponge. Ten drops would be enough to last for a while.

You can choose to customize scents to be more energizing or calming scent. This hack is very versatile for those who share a closet.

You can cut the sponge in half and add different scents to each.

Faucet Cleaner

If you don’t have a lemon, but want to use the lemon hack, you can try lemon juice and a sponge.

Mix 1 tablespoon of lemon juice with 1 teaspoon of baking soda and allow the sponge to absorb it. Then use this tool to wipe down your faucets and stainless steel.

This is an easy way to get the same benefits with something that can last longer. If the job wasn’t too tough, you can keep your sponge in a jar in the fridge for use throughout the week.

Nail Polish Remover

Nail polish remover doesn’t have to go to waste trying to clean one finger. Save your nail polish remover by making a removal jar.

Cut your sponge into small rectangles and place them in a small jar. The next step is to add your nail polish remover.

Then, all you have to do is place the finger inside and twist the jar until the nail polish dissolves. Keep this handy for future removals and you never have to spill nail polish remover again.

Sponge in the Dishwasher

You may use a sponge to remove excess food and grease from your dishes before you put them in the washer.

Another quick way to clean your kitchen sponge is by placing them in the dish washer. The heat will get rid of the bacteria and the water that moves around the dish washer will rinse away any residue.

When you’re about to do dishes, just place your sponge on the bottom tray. It really is an all in one hack. You get your dishes and your sponges clean.
