So, you’ve heard all about the life-changing benefits of journaling, and always wanted to try it but never got around to making it happen. However, today is different; you’re finally ready to let those creative juices flow and give journaling your best shot; good on you! Here I have compiled a list of helpful tips that will get you started in the wonderful world of journaling. Let’s begin!
All You Need Is A Pen and Notebook
As Cliche as it sounds, one of the hardest things about starting a journal is getting started. For a lot of people, it can be quite overwhelming to see all the fancy journals and the expensive stationery on social media, and it’s enough to make some beginners give up without even trying. Well, I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to spend a fortune on supplies. All you need to get started is a notebook and pen; you can always work your way up later.
Break The Spine Of Your Notebook
Note: If you’re using a spiral-bound notebook, this tip isn’t necessary.
If you’re using a hard-cover notebook, you know that the pages don’t lay flat when you open it. To fix this, lay your notebook on a flat surface with the front and back covers laying flat and the pages erect. Take ten pages from the front and press them down flat then ten from the back and flatten. Repeat the process until you reach the middle of the book. This will get your notebook nice and flat for journaling.
Keep Things Simple
Another thing that tends to scare beginners is not knowing what to write. If you’re struggling with this, don’t worry too much. My advice is to keep things simple, write what is meaningful and impactful to you. Instead of writing about your entire day, write what was special about it and what left an impression on you. You can write short sentences of a paragraph, whatever works for you.
Doodle With A Pencil
I think we can all agree that doodling is one of the most fun parts of journaling. But, there is nothing more disheartening than a badly drawn doodle to ruin n otherwise perfect journal. To prevent this mishap, draw your doodles with a pencil, use a pen to line it, and erase the pencil lines once the ink is dry. Boom, a perfect doodle!
Label And Date Entries
There is nothing quite as pleasing to the eyes as a well-organized journal. One great way of keeping your journal nice and neat is to write the date and time of each entry. That way, you can keep track of everything and create a good journaling habit.
Journaling can be an amazing, fun, and rewarding experience when you don’t overthink it, it can provide an outlet for your thoughts, creativity, and feelings, and it will boost your productivity and organizing skills. The important thing is to get started and once you do, you’ll be glad you did! Stay inspired.
