I finally got the headboard of my dreams. I know this is a simple and very plain headboard. But a girl living in a tiny cabin doesn’t really get fancier than this 🙂 At least in my case.
If you would like to make your own rustic farmhouse headboard, here is what you will need.
2 Pieces of 64″ fence posts
2 Pieces of 58 1/8 fence posts
7 Pieces of 24 1/4″ fence
A couple of 4″ screws
This headboard was very simple to make. It took my hubby less than a day to make and set it up in our little nook in our cabin.
We used some small posts that are normally used to make fences, but you can use whatever wood you choose.
Here is how to make it.
Cut the wood that is going to frame the headboard. So you can go ahead and cut the two pieces of 58 1/8″ posts. These are the long vertical posts that will go to the side of the headboard, and they will hold it up.
Cut the two pieces of 64″ fence posts. These are the only two pieces of horizontal posts that will be on your headboard.
Cut the seven pieces of 24 1/4″ posts. These are the pieces of wood that will fill out the space between the frame of the headboard.
Lay out all the pieces of wood like in the photo below and connect the pieces with screws.
You can space the seven pieces of 24 1/4″ posts about 4-6″ apart.
If the wood you are using is rough, you might want to do some sanding. We had to sand ours to make them smooth enough for our project. You can also stain your headboard if you choose. But so far, we have not put any stain on ours.
