I could have never imagined the difference this hanging rope shelf would have made in our little cottage. Last night we hung it beside our bed, and it made our little sleeping nook feel like a setting in a storybook.
Here is how to make one of these beautiful shelves for yourself.
Materials & Tools
Three pieces of flat wood
Twelve pieces of 7.5′ rope
Drill and flat wood drill bit
The Steps
Cut three pieces of wood with one being larger than the other two, and one of those other two being bigger than the other.
Sand them and get them refined as much as you need to.
Use a drill with a flat wood drill bit to make a hole at each corner of the three pieces of wood.
Your three pieces of wood should be looking like this a this stage.
Take one piece of rope measuring 7.5′ and pull one of the holes on the largest piece of wood. Make a knot on the rope right where it measures 6″ from the end of the rope at the bottom side of the wood.
Above the wood, make a knot right where the rope measures 1′ from the surface/top side of the wood. Then pull the rope through one of the holes on the piece of wood that is second in size.
Make another knot right where the rope measures 1′ from the surface/top side of the second piece of wood. Then pull the rest of the rope through the third and smallest piece of wood.
Repeat the process of pulling the rope through the largest piece of wood, make a knot underneath it, then make another knot 1′ above that first piece of wood. Pull the rope through the second piece of wood. Make another knot 1′ above that second piece of wood, then pull the rest of the rope through the third piece of wood. After completing this process the first time, you should end up repeating it three times for the other three corners on the pieces of wood.
At the ending of pulling the rope through the holes and making knots, you will end up with your DIY 3 tier floating/hanging shelves.
Hope your project turns out great it you give this a go 🙂
